Motorcycle crashes in Florida, outside ordinary PIP

Short answer

Florida generally treats motorcycles differently from passenger cars. PIP usually does not cover a rider, even if that person also owns a car with PIP. CrashAid can refer riders and passengers for free. It is not a law firm, does not tell you to remove a helmet, and does not promise that the other driver will pay.

What changes when the bike is excluded

The motorcycle article explains that the no-fault medical benefit people expect from PIP is generally unavailable to a rider, and that the serious-injury threshold tied to no-fault is not the same gate. Health insurance, optional motorcycle medical coverage, and the other driver's liability policy become the practical sources. Confirm all of that against your own documents.

Helmet rules for riders 21 and older are in section 316.211, as the article states, including the medical-benefits condition for riding without one. Riding without a helmet does not automatically end a claim, and an insurer may still argue about injuries.

Tell the form it was a motorcycle

Pick Motorcycle even if a car hit you. The car driver's PIP is not your PIP. If the car left, use the hit-and-run page as well and say the bike was involved.

Clearwater, Tampa, Bradenton, and Fort Myers are linked because riders use those roads. None of those city pages cites a motorcycle crash study.

Questions

Does my car's PIP cover me on a motorcycle?

Generally no. Florida's PIP definition of a motor vehicle excludes motorcycles. The motorcycle article states that, including the point that a car policy in the household does not automatically replace it.

I was not wearing a helmet. Can I still request a referral?

Yes. Section 316.211 sets when an adult rider may ride without a helmet. An insurer may still argue about injury severity. CrashAid does not judge that.

I was a passenger on the bike. Is this the right page?

Yes. Say you were the passenger. Coverage questions are still different from a passenger-car crash.
